A Last Minute Touchdown Caps the Day for Lady Bucs
MILLBROOK - The Shelton State Community College women's flag football team recorded two wins on Sunday afternoon, with vastly different endings.
Shelton State (6-2) throttled Northwest Shoals Community College 42-6 in the opener, setting the program record for points scored.
The Bucs rallied past Snead State Community College 21-20 in game two, scoring a touchdown followed by a successful two-point conversion in the final half minute of the game for the comeback win.
Shelton State trailed the entire game against the Parsons before the late touchdown clinched the win.
"The girls came out unfocused as we were still in a fog after the big win" head coach Doug Rogers said. "We had to refocus and dig in as we were down the whole game"
Freshman receiver Lanijia Seay scored on a 2-yard run with 25 seconds left to pull the Bucs to within 20-19.
Freshman quarterback Kamryn Everroad (Central, Tuscaloosa) completed a pass to freshman receiver Ja'Niya Garrett for the game-winning two-point conversion.
Snead State (6-4) led 7-0 and 13-6 in the first half and pushed the lead to 20-6 in the second half.
"Seay and Garrett kept us in the game with some solid play," Rogers said.
"(Freshman quarterback) Jayci Sullivan made some nice runs down the stretch. Everroad made a great throw to Garrett for the two-point conversion to win the game."
Seay scored the Bucs first touchdown against Snead and Garrett scored the second touchdown to set up the game-winning winning drive.
Freshman Jaidyn Paramore (Tuscaloosa County) made one extra point.
Sullivan (Northside HS) led the Bucs on five scoring drives in the 42-6 blowout win over Northwest Shoals.
The 42 points are the most scored by the Bucs, and fourth-most scored in the ACCC this season.
"This was our best offensive performance of the year," Rogers said. "We were able to score both offensively and defensively."
Freshman corner RaVonnie King and Paramore had interception returns for touchdowns for the Bucs.
Freshman cornerback Shabreia Brannon hauled in a touchdown pass with a highlight reel, one-handed grab.
Shelton State is riding a 4-game winning streak and will have its first open date of the season.
The Bucs return to action on Sunday, Oct. 18 against Calhoun and Snead State in Montgomery.
