Lady Bucs Split with Gadsden; Take Series
Gadsden- The Shelton State softball team took their 1st conference series of the year after splitting with Gadsden State (9-0, 8-4) on Saturday. The Lady Buc offense posted 28 hits over the two games.
Game 1:
Victoria Hagemann continued her dominance in the circle going 6 innings allowing just 2 hits and no earned runs. Hagemann has allowed just 4 hits over her last two outings. The Lady Bucs offense produced runs in every inning but the 4th and 5th.
The Lady Bucs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an Alana Spann walk, Layla Bradshaw single, Lauren Coker double, and Chloe Mitchell 2 run home run. The Lady Bucs would add in the 2nd on a Willeshia Lang double. Natalie Liner would drive in Chloe Mitchell in the 4th to bring the lead to 6-0. Lauren Coker lined a ball into right field scoring Spann in the 6th. Alana Spann and Chelsey Hogsed would add RBI's in the 6th and 7th innings to push the lead to 9-0. Kaitlyn Powell would pitch a perfect 7th inning for the Lady Bucs.
Every Lady Buc that stepped to the plate recorded a hit including the Chloe Mitchell homer and doubles for Aspen Gearld, Mitchell, Lauren Coker, and Willeshia Lang.
Game 2:
The Gadsden State bats came alive in final game of the series, scoring quadruple the amount of runs in game 4 (8) than the last 3 games combined (2). The Lady Bucs out hit the Lady Cardinals (14-9) in the game despite being outscored 8-4.
The Lady Bucs took the lead in the first inning after Alana Spann led the game off with a double. Layla Bradshaw would single moving Spann to 3rd base and Chloe Mitchell would score Spann on a sacrifice fly to left field. Gadsden State answered with a 3 run bottom half sparked by a Lady Buc error. The bats would stay quiet until the Lady Cardinals added two in the 4th once again aided by a Lady Buc error. The Lady Bucs cut into the lead in the 5th on a Chloe Mitchell base hit scoring Alana Spann. Gadsden would answer adding a run in bottom half on the inning. The Lady Bucs tried to rally in the 7th inning scoring 2 runs on 5 hits.
Mackenzie Harper started the game for the Lady Bucs going 4 and 1/3 innings allowing 5 earned runs on 6 hits. Lexi Darnell finished the game giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. Alana Spann went 3-4, scoring 3 of the Lady Bucs 4 runs. Chloe Mitchell was responsible for 2 RBI's and Harley Johnson added 3 hits.
The Lady Bucs return to action on Thursday, March 27, as they travel to Rainsville, AL to take on Northeast CC.
