Lady Bucs Rout Meridian 96-39
Meridian, MS- The Shelton State Lady Bucs moved to 6-0 on the season after a 96-39 win over the Merdian Lady Eagles.
Freshman Janiyah Bone hit five 3's in route to a 22-point performance. Laylah Davis also drained five 3's and ended the game with 20 points. Lameria Thomas scored a career high 15 points. Julie Nekolna posted 14 points and 9 rebounds, and Makala Hobdy stuffed the stat sheet with an 11 point, 9 assist, 8 rebound game.
Janiyah Bone hit all five of her 3's in the 1st quarter as the Lady Bucs (6-0) jumped out to a 32-4 lead after the 1st quarter. Makala Hobdy also had 6 in the quarter as Shelton State posted their 2nd highest scoring quarter of the season. "The ability to shoot a basketball is an absolute game changer," said head coach Madonna Thompson. "We are still searching for that full 40 minutes, and I feel like we got closer to that tonight." The Lady Bucs 2nd quarter struggles continued as they scored only 12 points in the quarter but held the Lady Eagles to just 8 to carry a 44-12 lead into halftime.
The second half saw freshman Laylah Davis score all 20 of her points, going 5-6 from the free throw line to go along with five 3's. The Lady Bucs outscored Meridian by 15 in the 3rd quarter (25-10) and 10 in the 4th quarter (27-17) to wrap up the 57-point victory.
The Lady Bucs return to action on November 22nd and 23rd as they travel to Poplar Bluff, MO to take on 7th ranked Three Rivers and 4th ranked Wabash Valley in the Three Rivers Classic.
