Bio
Jessica Bates, affectionately known as "JB," has been a vital part of Shelton State Community College's athletic department for eight years, serving as the Athletic Academic Advisor. She plays a key role in helping student-athletes balance their academic and athletic responsibilities while ensuring compliance with NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA regulations, as well as the rules of Shelton State Athletics.
JB conducts regular class check-ins, manages team study halls, monitors academic progress, and assists student-athletes in choosing courses that meet their degree requirements while fitting around their practice and competition schedules. Additionally, she is responsible for maintaining academic eligibility and participates in conference meetings, completes transfer waivers, monitors graduation status, and acts as an administrator for home games.
Her commitment to helping athletes achieve academic honors and awards reflects her dedication to their overall success both in the classroom and on the field. JB's steadfast focus on academic excellence and her effective support systems make her an invaluable asset to Shelton State Community College.
JB previously worked as an Assistant Women's Basketball coach for two seasons at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Alabama.
JB’s collegiate education career began at Snead State Community College in Boaz, Alabama, where she played volleyball for two years before transferring to Troy University in 2011. In 2013, she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sport and Fitness Management. During her time at Troy, Bates helped monitor study hall hours for student-athletes, and this is where she found her true passion in helping athletes achieve their academic goals.
