Pickens Named ACCC Pitcher of the Week
TUSCALOOSA -Shelton State sophomore left-handed pitcher John Michael Pickens has been named the ACCC Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced today.
Pickens recorded two saves In the Bucs one-run victories at Southern Union on April 24.
He entered the first game with two outs and two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth inning. He struck out pinch-hitter Andrew Pitts to strand both runners.
Pickens struck out the side in the night and finished with four strikeouts.
Pickens repeated that feat in game two. He entered the game in the bottom of the ninth with the Bucs holding a 4-3 lead.
After a leadoff single followed by a sacrifice bunt and wild pitch, Pickens struck out the next two hitters stranding the tying run at third.
He retired seven of the eight batters he faced over the two games and recorded six strikeouts.
Pickens now has 15 career saves the second most in program history. David Slovak holds the record with 16 career saves.
