Thomas Dominates in Bucs Win Over Wallace
Tuscaloosa- The Shelton State women's basketball team moved to 23-3 on the season and 10-0 in ACCC play with a 59-46 win over Wallace State.
Lameria Thomas (CoCo) scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down 18 rebounds in a dominating performance for the Lady Bucs. Julie Nekolna added 13 points and Makala Hobdy pitched in 11 while dishing out 6 assists. The Lady Bucs shot 14% (1-7) from beyond the arc but 46% (23-50) from the field. The Lady Lions, who average 10 made three's a game were held to 5-27 from 3 and 17-55 from the field.
The Lady Lions came out of the gate hot, hitting 3 of their first 5 attempts from 3, but cooled off to go 2-22 over the next 30 minutes of play. The 1st quarter saw Thomas score 10 of her 21 going a perfect 4-4 from the field. The Lady Bucs took a 10-point advantage into the half thanks to 14 points from Thomas.
The Lady Lions were able to take advantage of a poor shooting 3rd quarter for the Lady Bucs as they cut into the lead. Holding a 39-33 advantage going into the 4th quarter, the Lady Bucs held Wallace to just 4-14 from the field in the final frame. Thomas pulled down 9 rebounds over the final 10 minutes and Alana Obianozie and Janiyah Bone iced the game from the free throw line.
The Lady Bucs return to action on Monday, February 17, as they travel to Decatur to take on Calhoun!
